Srikhand Mahadev Trek

What is mythological significance: The mythology of Shrikhand Mahadev is that the demon Bhasmasura had asked for a boon from Lord Shiva in return for his penance that anyone he laid his hands on would be consumed. Due to the demon tendency she decided to marry Mata Parvati. Therefore Bhasmapur planned to devour Lord Shiva by placing his hands on him. Lord Shiva reached Shrikhand and entered the Devdhanka cave located in Nirmand and shrunk as Shrikhand Shila. Lord Vishnu, on the other hand, took the form of Mata Parvati to destroy Bhasmasura's intention and consequently persuaded Bhasmasura to dance with her. During the dance, Bhasmasura placed his hands on his own head and was consumed.

This place can still be seen as a red colored earth in Bhima Duari. Even after Bhasmasura was over, when Lord Shiva did not come out of the rock form of Shrikhand, then Ganesh, Karthikeyan and Maa Parvati did severe penance at this place, then Mahadev Shrikhand came out by ruining the rock like Shivling.

Shrikhand Mahadev is a 72 feet high fragmented Shivling.
Each year the yatra officially opens for just 2 weeks in the month of Sawan. Since 2014, this journey has gone into the hands of the administration, under which travel registration of all the passengers is done in Sinhagad. The online process for registration has not started yet.
